Recipe-

Summary

i don’t usually love french toast, but i’ll always make an exception for crunchy french toast. the variation in texture totally changes the game, and let’s be honest- it might as well be dessert. the crispy, crunchy coating can be made with any cereal; i went with Frosted Flakes, but this recipe would be equally delicious with Cap’n Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch… the possibilities are endless!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cereal
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup nutpods french vanilla oat milk creamer
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 slices brioche, thick-sliced
  • 2-3 tbsp. butter

Instructions

  1. add cereal to a ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin until broken down into small, coarse pieces (don’t go crazy smashing them up- you don’t want crumbs). pour into a shallow dish and set aside.
  2. in another large shallow dish, crack two eggs and add heavy whipping cream. stir in the creamer, then add sugar, cinnamon, and salt. whisk to combine.
  3. begin preparing french toast by soaking each slice of bread in the egg mixture, then transfer into the cereal. press cereal into bread, flipping to coat, then set aside and repeat with all remaining slices.
  4. in a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter then add french toast slices. pan fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side (be careful- the sugary cereal coating can burn easily). repeat with remaining slices.
  5. plate and serve with fresh sliced strawberries and powdered sugar or maple syrup.
